Wheels
Race BMX wheels in full, ready-built or built to order: wheelsets in 20 inch and 24 inch Cruiser, carbon and aluminium rims, hubs, spokes, axles, cassette drivers, inner tubes and rim tape. Ranges from ICE, Pride, Box Components, Answer and Stay Strong, with the wheelbuilding advice that goes with them.
BMX race wheels: building the pair your track asks for
The wheel turns pedal input into speed the moment the gate drops. Its weight is felt on every acceleration, its lateral stiffness decides how the bike sits in a berm, and its lacing absorbs every jump landing. This section gathers complete wheelsets and all the components needed to build, upgrade or repair a wheel.
Ready-built wheelset or custom build
A ready-built wheelset arrives with checked lacing and even spoke tension: the direct route to replacing stock wheels. A custom build pairs one specific rim with one specific hub, which is the way to go when you change axle standard, move to disc brake or need a particular drilling.
Carbon or aluminium
Carbon delivers stiffness for a contained weight and earns its place with riders who sprint hard and stack up motos. Aluminium takes edge impacts better and costs far less to replace: a coherent choice for training and for the Micro to Junior classes, who wear kit out fast and are still growing.
Sizes and standards to know
- 20 inch, 406 rim: the Pro and junior Cruiser standard, in 1.50 to 1.75 widths
- 20 inch, 451 rim: larger diameter, narrow 1"1/8 and 1"3/8 sections, Mini to Expert
- 24 inch, 507 rim: Cruiser only
- Drilling: 28H to save weight, 36H for strength
Compatibility to check before ordering
Three points decide whether a wheel fits. Axle diameter first, 10, 15 or 20 mm, which must match the frame dropouts and the fork legs: see our BMX frames and forks for the figures. Braking next, since a disc-specific rim has no braking track — detailed in our BMX brakes section. Finally the sprocket, whose tooth count and chainline must suit your BMX drivetrain.
Consumables and wear parts
A wheel lives on parts that get replaced: inner tubes, rim tape, broken spokes, driver pawls, hub bearings. Check spoke tension after every heavy landing, and replace cracked rim tape before it turns into a puncture.
