BMX Cruiser
The BMX Cruiser is a discipline of its own, raced in 24 inch on 507 rims and contested in age brackets. Frames from 20.5" to 22" of top tube, full builds or bare frames. The 24 inch ranges from Chase, Meybo, Supercross, Inspyre and Stay Strong are gathered here.
BMX Cruiser: racing on 24 inch
The Cruiser is not a cruising bike: it is a competition class, run on the same track and from the same gate as the 20 inch, on 24 inch wheels. It has its own motos, its own results sheet and its own following, strongest among adults.
Why riders pick the Cruiser
The reasons repeat from club to club. Some come for the big wheel, which clears rhythm sections without demanding the millimetre precision of a 20 inch. Others, back in competition after years away, find a bike that forgives more on landings. And plenty simply enter both formats on the same race day to double their time on track.
A class raced in age brackets
Cruiser is contested in age groups, from teenagers through to the most experienced categories, so you measure yourself against riders of your own generation rather than against the 20 inch elite. That structure explains how long people stay in the sport: you can race it seriously at 40 or 50, on a bike sized for an adult instead of an enlarged youth model.
Choosing your Cruiser frame size
| Cruiser frame | Rider height | Top tube | Cranks | Wheel |
| Cruiser Expert / XL | 150 to 165 cm | 20.5" to 21" | 170 to 175 mm | 24" (507) |
| Cruiser Pro | 165 to 178 cm | 21.25" to 21.5" | 175 to 177.5 mm | 24" (507) |
| Cruiser Pro XL | 178 cm and over | 21.75" to 22" | 177.5 to 180 mm | 24" (507) |
The rule is simple: take the size you already use on 20 inch, or one step above. A rider settled on a 20.75" BMX Pro most often lands on a 21.25" Cruiser. For the largest size, see our Cruiser Pro XL frames. Because shell height is greater on 24 inch, the position sits slightly more upright for identical numbers.
The 507 format and its consequences
The Cruiser runs 507 rims shod in 24x1.75 to 24x1.95. That standard shares nothing with 406 and 451 rims: no rim, tyre or inner tube swaps between the two bikes. The fork is longer, and rear spacing and brake boss placement are specific to 24 inch, so a Cruiser wheel will never go onto an Expert XL frame.
What 24 inch changes in how you ride
- More inertia: slower to wind up, but the rhythm holds better at the end of a straight
- Jumps taken higher, with less risk of getting caught out
- A stretched wheelbase, therefore better grip through the berms
- A longer rollout for the same chainring, to be corrected at the chainring or sprocket
- A few hundred grams more than a 20 inch of comparable level
The brands present in 24 inch
Chase, Meybo, Supercross, Inspyre and Stay Strong all run a 24 inch range beside their 20 inch models. Their approaches differ: some stretch the 20 inch geometry, others redraw head angle and shell height specifically for the big wheel. None of that is readable from the top tube figure alone. A complete build stays the most direct way into the class, with matched parts and coherent gearing out of the box; the bare frame suits whoever already owns a pair of 507 wheels. Being multi-brand is what makes those geometry sheets comparable side by side rather than one catalogue at a time.
