Pedals on sale: what a model year actually changes
From one year to the next, a pedal mostly changes in colour, surface treatment or pin length. The previous version remains perfectly suited to the track, which makes it one of the easiest discounts to take on a Race bike. The finishes listed here are not restocked.
Three checks before you confirm
- 9/16" axle thread: this is the BMX Race standard, worth confirming if you are coming from a kids bike in 1/2".
- SPD cleats supplied or not: on a cleared batch they are sometimes missing and ordered separately.
- Cage size: a wide platform leaves a Mini or Junior rider off balance.
Flats or clipless, depending on the season
A discounted pair of flats makes an excellent winter training set to keep alongside the clipless pedals you save for racing. If you are moving to clipless right now, take a second set of cleats while you are at it: cleat wear decides how the pedal releases long before the pedal itself wears out.
