What you will find in the chainring clearance
A chainring leaves the catalogue when the brand refreshes its colour palette or its machining, rarely because it has aged badly. The models gathered here are therefore new parts of which only one or two tooth counts and one or two finishes remain. Once a tooth count is gone, it does not come back.
The drive standard matters more than the price
A chainring is either spline drive, straight onto the spindle, or bolt drive onto the crank arm. The spline diameter — 19, 22 or 24 mm — has to match the spindle of your cranks exactly. A bargain in the wrong standard is nothing more than a wall ornament.
The remaining tooth count changes your gearing
On a clearance rack it is usually the available tooth count that decides for you. Dropping from 44 to 41 teeth at the front makes the gate start lighter but shortens your acceleration down the straight: compensate at the rear with the sprocket, and check that your chain keeps enough links in the same 1/8" or 3/32" format.
