Graphics that stop, not safety on the cheap

Helmet makers renew their decoration every season on strictly identical shells and liners. Last year's model then moves into the sale. Every reference offered here keeps its original approvals — EN 1078, which certifies the shell without testing the chin bar, and, depending on the model, ASTM F2032, the BMX-specific standard that covers face protection — with the same construction, composite or polycarbonate shell depending on the model, as the current version. The 10 cm minimum peak required by the UCI (rule 6.1.081) is fitted as standard too.

Head circumference, never the letter on its own

The point of vigilance is unique to this family: measure the head circumference with a soft tape, a centimetre above the eyebrows, and compare it with that brand's own chart. A size M does not cover the same centimetres at Kenny and at Fly Racing. Check two further details specific to an older model year: whether the eye port suits the goggles you already own, and the availability of wear parts, peak and cheek pads, if you plan to keep the helmet for several seasons.

The sizes that remain

At end of line it is mainly XS and XL that are left, rarely the mid sizes. A helmet that has taken an impact has to be replaced, so buying ahead in a sale makes sense.
