This selection brings together our cheap BMX brakes: V-brake calipers, long-pull levers, pads and disc kits, either end of line or in an outgoing colour, from Promax, Box Components, Insight and Shimano. The stock shown is the real stock, with no restock once a reference is gone.
Discounted braking parts have to be assembled with method
Braking is the one system on the bike where an isolated bargain can make everything else work worse. The references gathered here are new — old colours, kits whose packaging changed, small end-of-range runs — but they still have to fit into a coherent set-up.
Lever pull ratio and caliper type
A V-brake caliper needs a long-pull lever; on a short-pull lever it feels spongy and then bites at the wrong moment. A mechanical disc caliper, in turn, expects its own pull ratio. Buy the lever and the caliper to the same logic, even when only one of the two is discounted.
Rotor, mount and compound: the details that catch you out
On a discounted disc kit, check the rotor diameter your mount accepts, 140 or 160 mm, and the fixing type, 6-bolt ISO or Centerlock. On V-brake, make sure the pad compound matches your rim: a compound made for aluminium has no business on a carbon rim.
