These are our cheap BMX handlebars: the widths and rise heights still available on series that are ending, in aluminium or carbon, from Tangent, Chase, Box Components and Answer. The remaining dimensions do not suit every rider — that is exactly what explains the price.
End-of-line handlebars: what is left, and why
A bar leaves the catalogue because of its graphics far more often than because of its geometry. What stays on sale is therefore a set of very specific dimensions: one width, one rise, sometimes a single colour. These bars are new and have never been fitted — a bar that has been crashed gets replaced, not discounted.
Rise and width have to match the rider
A 4" rise suits a Junior, a 9" or 10" rise a tall Pro: this is not a matter of taste but of position on the gate. The same goes for width, from 660 to 737 mm: UCI rule 6.1.075 caps the bar at 73.7 cm, so the adult range runs from 720 to 737 mm (28" to 29"). You can trim it by a few millimetres and never by several centimetres, on an aluminium bar only — a carbon bar is never cut down. Do not buy a discount in an approximate size.
Clamp diameter and material
Check the diameter at the centre of the bar: 22.2 mm standard or 31.8 mm oversize. It has to match your stem, with no improvised shim. On a discounted carbon bar, respect the stated torque figures to the letter, torque wrench in hand.
