Rear Sprocket

Sprockets on sale: the remaining tooth count sets your gearing
On a sprocket clearance the choice runs backwards: instead of starting from your gear ratio, you start from what is left. One tooth of difference noticeably changes the gate start and top speed down the straight. So look at the tooth count offered before you look at the price.
Screw-on freewheel or cassette cog
The two are not interchangeable. A freewheel screws onto a threaded hub and carries its own mechanism; a cassette cog fits the driver of a hub built for it, with its own lockring. Identify your hub before buying, otherwise the bargain will stay in its bag.
Chain format and adjustment after the swap
The sprocket has to share your chain format, 1/8" or 3/32". Use the tooth count change as an opportunity to check the remaining chain length and the setting of your chain tensioner: a modified ratio moves the wheel in the dropouts, sometimes all the way to the end.
